By 2050, transportation will become Canada’s highest energy-consuming sector. Despite the negative effects—increased air pollution and carbon emissions, rising energy costs and the imminent threat of peak oil—we continue to rely on fossil fuels for both energy production and transportation, and have only begun to develop viable alternatives.
We need to reconsider not only what modes of transportation we use, but also what kinds of energy and infrastructure will fuel them.
