The Kilns

The historic kilns The most dramatic space at Evergreen Brick Works was formerly the most functional part of the site. Visitors can take guided tours of this 52,000-square-foot area to see the three long tunnel kilns and six single-track drying tunnels. You will go back in time as you explore the rich industrial heritage of the site.

The Kilns building is also home to the Holcim Gallery. Unique, large-scale art installations will be displayed throughout this space, including our upcoming series of expositions, beginning with MOVE in May 2012. The combination of heritage, activity and art also makes it a fabulous venue for events.

Visitors will also see Outward Bound Canada at the north end of the building with their 60-foot climbing tower and indoor bouldering wall.

Construction Notice, May 19: As part of our ongoing adaptive reuse project, Evergreen will be making some modifications to Kiln 3, the smallest of the tunnel kilns. These modifications will:

  • make the southwest quarter of the building more functional for programs and events
  • reveal hidden aspects of Kiln 3
  • stabilize remaining portions of the kiln
  • help interpret the kilns for visitors – in particular, how they functioned and how they were constructed

The project will be completed by Heritage Restoration Incorporated, and will be overseen by ERA Architects – the heritage architect of Evergreen Brick Works since 2006. Project plans were reviewed by City of Toronto Culture and Heritage Preservation Services as well as the Ontario Heritage Trust.

Please excuse our appearance during construction. Evergreen apologizes for any inconveniences.
